ACTIVITIES TO SUPPORT HEALTH AND WELL BEING OF THEIR FAMILIES.
- COOK AND EAT
A rolling programme for 6 families at a time for up to 10 weeks – working in partnership with Café West. Some are targeted families to ensure that they have a healthy meal to take home with them.
- FAMILYLINKS PARENTING COURSE
A 10 week parenting and nurture course to targeted families to work on their knowledge and skills in parenting. Working in partnership with Allerton Childrens Centre to deliver the course.
A programme of work delivered by “Relate” or “Bradford Counselling Service” to targeted parents and families in need of support.
- TRANSITION MEETINGS
Meetings and information given to parents re their childs transition into : nursery, nursery to reception, reception to yr1, yr 1 to yr 2 ( Keystage 1 to 2) and yr 6 to Secondary school.
- CHOICE ADVISOR MEETINGS
Meetings, advice, support for parents whose children are moving on to secondary school or reception and how to complete secondary and primary forms.
- ATTENDANCE PANEL MEETINGS
Held in school with Inclusion staff and parents to address poor attendance. Welfare issues always arise then parents are supported or signposted to other agencies.
- COFFEE MORNINGS/AFTERNOONS – NOW HELD AT CAFÉ WEST TO PROMOTE COMMUNITY COHESION
To offer support, advice, skills, signpost and build up parents self esteem and confidence to meet new people. Strengthening their support network and help them attend other activities going on in school and the local community.
- FAMILYLINKS ANTE NATAL COURSE
A 6 week programme deliverd by the childrens centre on site. Parents from school are signposted and encouraged to attend.
- PARENTS IN CLASS
Each child in class invited their parents in to look at their work, meet their teacher and their friends .
- PHONICS DEMONSTRATION
Year 1 classes demonstrated to their parents how they learn their phonics, with support from the class teacher.
- HOMEWORK CLUB
Parents invited to join and support their children in learning and completing their homework. Teachers supported the sessions.
- SATS CLUB
Year 6 children and parents invited to attend a 6 week programme supporting their sats.
- FAMILY COOKING – HEALTHY EATING AT CAFÉ WEST
A small group of parents were referred to the cooking group to encourage them to bond with their children, learn a new skill and to attend and engage in their local community centres.
- CAP JOB CLUB
Parents referred to the group if interested in looking for jobs, needed support with cv writing and work experience.
- EASTERN EUROPEAN COFFEE AFTERNOONS AND ADVICE SESSIONS IN CONJUNCTION WITH ALLERTON CHILDRENS CENTRE
Targeted groups were encouraged to attend sessions to meet other parents speaking the same /similar language. A translator was provided and advice and support given. Special events were arranged including Mothers day and St Nicholas day.
- SCHOOL NURSE DROP IN
A fortnightly drop in session for parents to get advice on their children’s health. Referrals made.
- HOME VISITS
Nursery home visits to meet the child and their family in a familiar environment. To complete registration and be given vital information regarding school and welfare issues.
Home visits for children new to school across all years. Local and school information given and information gathering re welfare and agencies working with the family.
- CITIZENS ADVICE CENTRE
Referrals made and families supported
- ADVICE CENTRES
Referrals made to various advice centres depending on the need of the family including support through translation, disabilities, benefits.
- FAMILY SOLICITORS
Referrals made and families taken and supported at the solicitors
- AUTISM SUPPORT GROUP
An invitation only support group for families waiting for an “Autism or Autistic spectrum disorder” diagnosis.
